About the Company

SGC is seeking an experienced and results-driven Depot Manager to lead its depot operations in Ndola. The successful candidate will oversee fuel depot operations, inventory management, logistics, regulatory compliance, and team leadership while ensuring the highest standards of operational efficiency, safety, and customer service.

About the Role

The Depot Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of depot operations, including stock control, fuel handling, logistics coordination, regulatory compliance, and financial management. The role requires a proactive leader capable of driving operational excellence while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and health, safety, security, environmental, and quality (HSSEQ) standards.

Key Responsibilities

Depot Operations & Stock Management

  • Oversee daily tank farm operations, including fuel receiving, offloading, storage, and dispensing.

  • Manage wet stock control, reconciliation, and inventory accuracy.

  • Execute daily shift closing logs and inventory reconciliations using the Jibu System.

  • Investigate and resolve stock variances promptly.

  • Ensure compliance with National Fuel Marking Programme protocols and ZABS product quality standards.

Logistics & Fleet Management

  • Manage secondary fuel distribution logistics to ensure On-Time, In-Full (OTIF) deliveries.

  • Supervise both company-owned and third-party transporters.

  • Optimize truck turnaround times (TAT) and fleet routing plans.

  • Coordinate logistics under the Uniform Petroleum Pricing (UPP) mechanism.

  • Manage UPP fund claims and related documentation.

  • Ensure all Road Tank Vehicles (RTVs) comply with applicable transport regulations (ZS 371 / ZS 372).

Health, Safety, Security, Environment & Quality (HSSEQ)

  • Promote a strong Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality culture.

  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory authorities including ERB, ZEMA, RTSA, ZABS, ZCSA, and ZMA.

  • Lead emergency preparedness activities, fire drills, hazard identification, and incident investigations.

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and environmental standards.

Leadership & Financial Management

  • Lead, mentor, and performance-manage depot operational staff, including technicians, operators, and logistics personnel.

  • Develop high-performing teams through coaching and continuous improvement.

  • Manage depot operational budgets (OPEX/CAPEX).

  • Drive cost efficiencies while maintaining operational excellence.

  • Negotiate and manage supplier and vendor contracts.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Technologist Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in a managerial role overseeing fuel depot, terminal operations, or bulk petroleum logistics.

  • Experience managing depot operations, inventory systems, and logistics activities.

  • Experience leading operational teams and managing budgets.

Required Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of Zambia's downstream petroleum regulatory framework, including ERB, ZEMA, RTSA, ZABS, and the Uniform Petroleum Pricing (UPP) mechanism.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP software and depot stock accounting systems (experience with the Jibu System is an added advantage).

  • Strong stock auditing and inventory management skills.

  • Vendor and contractor management experience.

  • Crisis management and emergency response planning skills.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management abilities.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

  • High attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
