Sandvik is seeking a qualified and experienced Heavy-Duty Repair (H.E.R) Technician to join its team in Kitwe.

About the Role

The Heavy-Duty Repair (H.E.R) Technician will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy mining equipment to ensure machinery operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. The successful candidate will work closely with operators and maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and maintain high safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Repair and replace parts in accordance with technical manuals, work instructions, and manufacturer specifications.

  • Interpret mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals to perform repairs and adjustments.

  • Perform maintenance tasks independently and verify equipment performance to detect possible faults.

  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical issues on heavy-duty mining equipment.

  • Prepare and execute maintenance activities in line with planned work schedules.

Inspection & Reporting

  • Report and document completed work in accordance with company procedures.

  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding equipment condition, maintenance requirements, and service quality.

  • Ensure maintenance records are accurate and up to date.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all work procedures are carried out safely using approved tools and equipment.

  • Follow SHEQ policies, regulations, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Promote safety awareness and report hazards or anomalies immediately.

  • Support compliance with company safety standards and industry best practices.

Team Support

  • Communicate effectively with operators and other stakeholders regarding repair procedures and equipment status.

  • Provide guidance and support to Level 1 technicians and trainees.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure efficient equipment availability and reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.

  • Advanced Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair (H.E.R) or Diploma in Mechanics.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in heavy-duty equipment repair.

  • Underground mining experience will be an added advantage.

  • Valid Silicosis Certificate.

  • Valid Driver's Licence.

Required Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

  • Good understanding of heavy mining equipment maintenance.

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and engineering drawings.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Computer literacy and basic software knowledge.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
