The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong health and safety culture by ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations while supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

About the Role

The Senior Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace health and safety systems. The role involves conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, ensuring legal compliance, delivering safety training, and promoting safe work practices to minimize workplace hazards and protect employees, contractors, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures.

• Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.

• Conduct workplace inspections and safety audits to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

• Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe work practices.

• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Risk Management

• Carry out hazard identification and risk assessments.

• Recommend and implement effective control measures to reduce workplace risks.

• Monitor high-risk activities and ensure compliance with approved safety procedures.

• Maintain emergency preparedness and response plans.

Incident Investigation & Reporting

• Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

• Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

• Monitor implementation of corrective actions and follow up on outstanding issues.

• Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.

Training & Safety Awareness

• Deliver health and safety induction programmes for employees and contractors.

• Conduct toolbox talks and other safety awareness campaigns.

• Provide guidance to managers and employees on occupational health and safety matters.

• Promote continuous improvement through employee participation and engagement.

Environmental & Occupational Health

• Support environmental compliance initiatives.

• Monitor workplace health programmes and occupational hygiene requirements.

• Ensure waste management and environmental protection procedures are followed where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field.

• Professional Health and Safety certification will be an added advantage.

• Membership with a recognized professional body is desirable.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Health, Safety and Environment, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

• Proven experience in occupational health and safety management.

• Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.

• Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation.

• Experience developing and implementing workplace safety programmes.
