The National Assembly is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Senior Media Liaison Officer.

About the Role

The Senior Media Liaison Officer will serve as the official spokesperson and primary point of contact between the National Assembly and the media. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing media relations strategies, coordinating media coverage of parliamentary activities, and promoting effective public communication to enhance the institution's visibility and public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations & Public Communication

  • Serve as the focal point for disseminating information and act as the official spokesperson for the National Assembly of Zambia.

  • Develop and implement media relations strategies that support the institution's communication objectives.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with print, broadcast, and digital media organizations.

  • Prepare and distribute press releases, media advisories, official statements, and other communication materials.

Media Coordination

  • Coordinate media coverage of parliamentary proceedings, committee meetings, official functions, and institutional programmes.

  • Organize press conferences, media briefings, interviews, and other public communication events.

  • Manage media accreditation and facilitate media access to parliamentary activities in accordance with established procedures.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor media coverage relating to Parliament and prepare media monitoring and analysis reports.

  • Maintain media databases, communication records, and relevant documentation.

  • Provide strategic communication support to management when required.

General Responsibilities

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate with five (5) credits or better, including English.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, or a related field from a recognized institution.

  • A Master's Degree will be an added advantage.

  • Membership with the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRAC).

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant post-qualification experience.

  • At least two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role.

  • Proven experience in media relations, corporate communications, public relations, or journalism.

Required Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong public relations and media engagement skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans.

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience in organizing media events and press briefings.

  • Excellent report writing and analytical skills.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Work Conditions

Successful candidates should be willing and able to:

  • Work during parliamentary sittings, committee meetings, and official events.

  • Occasionally work outside normal office hours to support media activities.

  • Travel when required to cover official parliamentary functions.

  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with the media and the public.
