The company provides drilling, rock excavation, loading, hauling, tunnelling, quarrying, and related technologies designed to improve productivity, safety, and service efficiency.
Sandvik is seeking a qualified SRT Technician to join its team in Solwezi.
The Sandvik Underground Sandvik Rock Tools (SRT) Technician will be responsible for supporting customers and ensuring that Sandvik rock tools and related products deliver reliable and efficient performance.
The role involves working closely with customers and site teams to ensure that rock tools are correctly selected, installed, monitored, and maintained. The successful candidate will also provide technical support, conduct inspections, and identify opportunities to improve rock-tool performance and productivity.
This is a day-on, 4-day-off schedule, with a 12-hour shift. The role requires flexibility, including occasional extended hours where necessary.
Deliver rock tools and related products to designated sites safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Remove, install, and manage rock tools and related equipment to ensure reliable operation.
Maintain and inspect rock-tool equipment and accessories at customer sites.
Replace worn or damaged components and ensure equipment is maintained according to required standards.
Carry out routine inspections and identify potential equipment or tool-related problems.
Provide technical advice and support to customers regarding rock tools and their application.
Monitor the performance and condition of rock tools and recommend appropriate solutions.
Identify failures or performance issues and communicate findings to the relevant supervisor.
Provide feedback regarding equipment performance, product condition, and customer requirements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity and reducing downtime.
Follow all applicable company safety procedures and site requirements.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant standards.
Report hazards, unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and other concerns promptly.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace safety.
Promote safe working practices among colleagues and customer teams.
Record work activities, inspections, maintenance, and tool usage accurately.
Use the Sandvik reporting/application systems to capture relevant work and equipment information.
Prepare reports and provide feedback to supervisors and customers where required.
Maintain accurate records of rock-tool performance and service activities.
Applicants should possess:
Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification.
Craft Certificate in Compressed Air Technology, Advanced Technical Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
At least 2 years' relevant experience in rock-tool or related mining operations.
Experience working in a mining environment, particularly underground mining, will be an advantage.
Good English communication skills.
Valid Silicosis Certificate and valid driver's licence are required.
Proficiency in using basic computer applications.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
Familiarity with rock drilling, cutting, and related equipment.
Ability to operate relevant software and systems used for monitoring and reporting.
Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
The ideal candidate will have relevant experience working in underground mining or similar environments and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and customer service.
Candidates should be physically fit and comfortable working in underground mining environments. The role requires flexibility and the ability to work extended hours when necessary.
