About the Role

The National Assembly of Zambia is the legislative arm of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, responsible for enacting laws, providing oversight of the Executive, and representing the people of Zambia. The National Assembly is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill one (1) Technical Maintenance Officer position.

About the Role

The Technical Maintenance Officer will be responsible for carrying out routine and corrective maintenance of technical equipment and facilities, ensuring plant reliability, workplace safety, and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will support maintenance projects, coordinate with contractors, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across National Assembly facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Maintenance & Technical Operations

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, including inspections, radio equipment, and Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs).

  • Respond promptly to plant incidents and emergencies as part of the emergency response team.

  • Execute planned maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

  • Support plant improvement projects aimed at enhancing performance and reducing downtime.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, procedures, and permit-to-work requirements.

  • Guide contractors and service providers on workplace safety practices.

  • Promote adherence to occupational health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Report maintenance issues, hazards, and equipment defects promptly.

Project Coordination & Team Support

  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and external service providers during maintenance and improvement projects.

  • Assist in planning and coordinating maintenance schedules.

  • Develop and facilitate technical training programs for staff.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.

  • Diploma in Electronics or another related engineering field.

  • Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum two (2) years of relevant work experience in technical maintenance or plant operations.

  • Experience maintaining electrical, electronic, or industrial equipment.

  • Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.

Required Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Good knowledge of electronics and technical maintenance.

  • Strong troubleshooting and fault diagnosis skills.

  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and maintenance procedures.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and planning abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Work Conditions

Successful candidates should be willing and able to:

  • Respond to maintenance emergencies when required.

  • Work in technical environments involving electrical and electronic equipment.

  • Comply with all workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.

  • Participate in planned maintenance activities outside normal working hours where necessary.
