The company operates integrated cement plants in Chilanga and Ndola, with a combined production capacity of approximately 1.5 million tonnes per year, and distributes its products by road and rail across Zambia and Southern Africa.
Chilanga Cement is seeking a dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and qualified Quarry Engineer to join its Ndola Plant.
The Quarry Engineer will be responsible for controlling and coordinating mining, quarrying and crushing operations across the business unit while contributing to the optimal performance, reliability and productivity of plant equipment.
Optimise quarry operations by reviewing production efficiencies, trends and process material stocks.
Coordinate and supervise project work aimed at developing new procedures and methods to improve quality, efficiency and productivity.
Ensure work methods, processes and techniques are properly followed in liaison with the Country Mining Manager.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the condition of all plant equipment on a continuous basis.
Supervise drilling, charging and blasting operations, including both primary and secondary blasting.
Supervise the hauling of limestone and other raw materials and related auxiliary operations.
Supervise subordinates involved in limestone and phyllite haulage.
Ensure efficient quarry and crushing operations.
Propose economical methods of extending the life of the quarry.
Manage the health and safety of employees during shifts to promote safe working practices and accident-free operations.
Ensure safe storage and proper use of explosives in accordance with applicable requirements.
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements relating to mining operations.
Prepare monthly and annual explosives, mineral production and labour returns for the Mines Safety Department of the Republic of Zambia.
Manage contractors involved in limestone haulage.
Provide effective supervision of quarry and crushing activities.
Coordinate operational activities to ensure production targets and safety requirements are achieved.
Perform any other duties assigned by superiors.
Applicants should possess:
Degree in Mining Engineering.
At least 3 years' working experience in a similar industry.
Valid Blasting Licence.
Paid-up membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
The successful candidate should demonstrate knowledge and competence in:
Global safety regulations and procedures.
Local safety regulations and procedures.
Cement production processes.
Computer literacy, particularly CMMS.
AutoCAD proficiency.
Problem-solving methods and tools, including Root Cause Failure Analysis and Risk Analysis.
Understanding of cause-and-effect relationships.
Ability to learn through formal training and work-related experience.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with plant personnel.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a quarry and cement production environment, including field-based mining, drilling, blasting, crushing and material-haulage operations.
Strong commitment to health, safety, operational reliability and production efficiency is essential.
