KEDA Ceramics Zambia Ltd is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety & Quality Officer to join its Engineering Department at its project site in Lusaka.
The position provides an opportunity for a safety and quality professional to contribute to construction project activities while maintaining a strong focus on workplace safety, quality assurance, compliance and continuous improvement.
The Safety & Quality Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of safety procedures and quality-control measures across the project site.
The role will involve identifying and controlling workplace hazards, monitoring construction activities, inspecting workmanship and materials, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring that corrective actions are properly implemented.
The successful candidate will help promote a strong culture of safety and quality among employees, contractors and other project stakeholders.
Conduct regular site safety inspections to identify hazards and unsafe working conditions.
Ensure employees and contractors comply with PPE requirements and approved safe working practices.
Monitor high-risk activities, including:
Working at heights
Hot work
Lifting operations
Electrical work
Lead and support Toolbox Talks, safety briefings and safety training sessions.
Identify unsafe practices and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Report incidents and near misses promptly.
Assist with incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
Monitor compliance with applicable site safety procedures and regulations.
Conduct thorough quality inspections to ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
Monitor construction workmanship, materials and processes to ensure required quality standards are maintained.
Identify quality deficiencies and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Support inspections, testing and project handover activities.
Verify that completed works meet the required specifications before acceptance.
Maintain accurate safety and quality records, reports and inspection checklists.
Document safety and quality issues identified during site inspections.
Track corrective and preventive actions through to completion.
Prepare relevant safety and quality reports for project management.
Ensure inspection and compliance documentation is properly maintained and readily available.
Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout the project site.
Encourage employees and contractors to report hazards, unsafe conditions and quality concerns.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and quality.
Work closely with engineering, construction and project teams to resolve safety and quality issues.
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
1–3 years' experience in construction or project-site management.
Solid knowledge of construction safety regulations and quality-control processes.
Experience identifying workplace hazards and construction quality deficiencies.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
Knowledge of construction safety practices.
Understanding of quality-control procedures.
Ability to conduct site safety and quality inspections.
Ability to monitor construction workmanship and materials.
Good understanding of high-risk construction activities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Ability to follow up and ensure corrective actions are closed.
